OrdPal ("we", "our", "the app") is a reading-companion app that helps readers of any age learn words across multiple languages — children learning to read, students working through a new language, and adults expanding their vocabulary. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

• Account information: email address (for sign-in via Apple, Google, or email).
• Reader profile data: the first name and age group you enter for each reader profile in the app (yourself or a child you're setting it up for). We do not require last names or any other identifying information.
• Photos: images of book pages you photograph in the app. These are processed by OpenAI's vision API to detect underlined words and are not retained on our servers after processing.
• Word library: words you look up, stored in your account so the library persists across devices.
• Subscription status: whether you have an active subscription, managed through Apple and RevenueCat.
• Usage data: daily counts of word lookups and image generations for plan-limit enforcement.

2. How We Use Information

• To provide the app's core features (word lookup, illustration generation, multi-child profiles).
• To enforce subscription plan limits.
• To improve app reliability via aggregated, non-personal usage data.

3. Third-Party Services

• OpenAI: processes photos and generates word explanations and illustrations. Subject to OpenAI's privacy policy.
• Firebase (Google): authentication, database, and image storage. Subject to Firebase's privacy policy.
• RevenueCat: subscription management. Subject to RevenueCat's privacy policy.
• Apple: in-app purchases and Sign in with Apple.

4. Use by Children

OrdPal can be used by readers of any age, including children under parental supervision. When the app is used by a child, the parent or guardian creates and manages the account and any child profiles inside it. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children directly — child profiles within the app contain only a first name and age group entered by the parent. We do not display ads, do not use any reader's data for advertising or behavioural marketing, and do not share profile information with third parties for advertising purposes.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data from the app's settings at any time. We retain data only as long as your account is active or as required to comply with legal obligations.
